Mark Zuckerberg is finally being held accountablenot by government regulators, board members or shareholders, but by two lawsuits. Tech journalist Casey Newtown, editor of Platformer, joins Offline to explain how a young woman in California beat Meta and Google on the grounds that Instagram and YouTube had destroyed her mental health. Jon and Casey discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the case, whether losing end-to-end encryption could lead to a surveillance state, and what happens if social platforms defensive shield, Section 230, is overturned. Then Jon speaks to New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez about his successful lawsuit against Meta, how the social media company plans to appeal it, and whether the case hes made could ultimately lead the Supreme Court to regulate this 21st century addiction.

Bondis firing wont quell Trumps discontent
The president is spiraling over Iran and blaming everyone around him but himself

(Salon) It feels like 1969 all over again. The United States is mired in a war few want, there is a criminal squatting in the White House and were on the verge of going back to the moon.
The difference is this time the president is actually a convicted felon who is quickly spinning out of control, and the conflict is being seen as a holy war by those waging it. And as the downward spiral of Donald Trumps ship of state gains momentum, those working for him have adopted a Titanic approach: Its everyone for themselves.
....(snip)....
On Monday, a source inside the White House said they heard Trump yelling from the Oval Office Get him out. Moments later they witnessed deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth scrambling like frightened puppies. This is, of course, why the press is no longer allowed in the Upper Press offices. Many of us who covered Trumps first administration heard him on occasion screaming at someone in the Oval Office. But Im told by those unfortunate enough to be there these days that the yelling is more frequent and less restrained and sometimes peppered with colorful metaphors more akin to a sailor on shore leave. These same sources have told me that Trump has considered ousting and replacing both Miller and Hegseth. The only one who seems safe is chief of staff Susie Wiles.
....(snip)....
Meanwhile, retiring North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis, who was the first Republican to call for the resignation or firing of former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, now has his sights set on Miller. The architect of Trumps mass deportation policy should go, Tillis told CNNs Jake Tapper, characterizing Millers role in the administration as a big problem. The senator added that it was Miller who initially said the U.S. should go after Greenland, and who has been repeatedly responsible for embarrassments for the president of the United States by acting too quickly speaking, first, and thinking later. ........................(more)

The far-right Christians pushing Trumps war to bring on the apocalypse
Apostles and prophets on the Christian fringe think Iran may lead to Armageddon and they love it
By Frederick Clarkson
Published April 4, 2026 9:00AM (EDT)
(Salon) On March 9, Donald Trump posted a nine-year old video on Truth Social that seemed to reveal his worsening political desperation. The video is a compilation of clips of charismatic Christian prophet Kim Clement, spliced together from 2007 appearances in California and Arizona. (Clement died in 2016.) The clear implication is that Clement was identifying Trump as Gods choice for president. Now some MAGA leaders may be taking the prophecy show on the road.
....(snip)....
The late Prophet Clement and others like him are part of a growing and politically connected movement within charismatic and Pentecostal Christianity called the New Apostolic Reformation. Its leaders, apostles and prophets say they are empowered and informed by direct revelations from God, and they are seeking religious and political dominion over society. (Although the NAR, by design, does not resemble more mainstream religious denominations, its honorific titles are not random or self-assigned.)
Notable apostles and prophets who have gained some public notoriety include Apostle Lance Wallnau, who waged a national voter mobilization campaign among low-propensity evangelical voters on Trumps behalf in 2024; Apostle Dutch Sheets, who played a role in the planning and execution of the Jan. 6 insurrection; Apostle Ché Ahn, who was a candidate in this years California gubernatorial election until the secretary of state barred him from the ballot for neglecting to file the necessary paperwork (he is still running a write-in campaign); and Apostle Paula White-Cain, a friend and spiritual adviser to Trump.
....(snip)....
Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, sees the Trump administrations attempt to cast the Iran war as a religious conflict as both dangerous and dangerously out of sync with foundational American values of religious equality and separation of church and state. .......................(more)
