5. Click the My Subs button

On your Subscriptions page, in the right column (or at the top on mobile) you should see the list of items you're subscribed to -- forums first, then people.

To Unsubscribe from those items, just click on them (the name of the item itself, not the checkbox). If it's a forum you'll be taken to the forum's main page. If it's a person you'll be taken to their Profile page. Either way, at the top there will be a big red "Unsubscribe" button.

If you unsubscribe from all the items on your Subscriptions page, the My Subs tab will never light up.
