...because that can imply that the Christian "Right" is equal in validity. We need to stop abdicating what power we have, leaving it to be misused. The fact that progressive denominations may be uncomfortable with their/our institutional power because of history we participated in (forced indigenous conversions, enslavement, etc.) -- and as a result, hesitate to claim our place in the current national conversations, does not mean that that power simply goes away. It just means that the lies told by theocrats are the only message being heard by people looking to the churches for guidance.

Even on this site, mischaracterizations and outright bigotry about Christianity goes too often without a countering voice. (Am I even allowed to say that here, or does it violate TOU?) Why is that?

I agree with much of the rest of the OP's insights. And I am very glad to see more voices (and protest signs) both putting out actual Christian messaging, and calling out the anti-Christian policies of the trumpists. More of that, please!

I think that the prohibition on "lobbying" from the pulpit may have been changed, though, due to a recent court case. It will take awhile to dig up and summarize, so I'll have to do that later. Bp. Budde certainly found a way to speak truth to power, and from the most prominent Episcopal pulpit in the US, too.
