I'd watched this video the other day, thinking this might've been something my Gran would've served on the farm in the Depression... Not convinced, despite the guy's surprised reaction.

But no... I just stumbled into a FB video from Garron Noone (Irish musician who somehow became an authority on everything Irish and many things not), and what should the topic be? Water pie. He is not a fan. Just made me laugh. Maybe because I tend to be sweary, myself, but yeah, whipping something out of nothing but fat and sugar just seems a sad excuse for dessert.

With 10 kids, all the girls kitted with flour sack dresses (the bags used to be printed 2ith flowers and such for this purpose), I can see my Gran making this but can't really believe she would've been nostalgic about it.
