12 Years Ago A Vet Told Wife & I To Have Tabby Cat Put Down [View all]
Tabby cat was a stray who showed up at our house 12 years ago. I managed to catch him and take him to the vet to have him fixed.
The vet did the procedure but when tests came back, Tabby Cat had feline leukemia. (I think that's what it was) It's the ailment where the cat's immune system doesn't work, so a cold will kill him. The vet suggested we put him down since he could give it to our 1 year old stray, CooCoo. I asked the vet if CooCoo can catch it from eating food from the same dish. Vet says no, only by transfer of blood from fighting. I say, this cat is timid, the 2 cats are friends, they do not fight. Vet says well it's up to us but Tabby Cat will only make it 2 or 3 years.
Did I mention that was 12 years ago and Tabby is eating cat food out on my porch right now.
3 weeks ago he started losing weight badly. I figured he caught something. I even went to the pet cemetery and prepared his spot. I waited because he would keep eating somewhat, and now he has gained weight back and our 13 year old stray still has his good buddy to take care of.
Oh yeah, CooCoo took care of Tabby Cat. He is a warrior/hunter cat. If the neighbor's dogs come to the porch to try to steal his food, they know better than to mess with CooCoo, and 2 of the dogs are big.
Every time I see Tabby Cat he brings a smile to my face because he is a fighter.
Just a good story for today. Going to put some Revolution on them now.
