He was only a few years older than AOC at the time.

"This young guy is amazing! Give him a couple of terms in the Senate and then some time as governor of Illinois, and he'll be a shoe-in for president!"

Four years later (not even one full senate term) and he was accepting the nomination for POTUS - and we all know the rest of the story.

I'm biased toward more experienced politicians - particularly those with significant executive experience (preferably governor of a significant state)... but that doesn't appear to be the model any longer.
