In reply to the discussion: Dog shoots owner in the back after jumping on shotgun left on bed: Police [View all]boyedav1969
(112 posts)60. Not just loaded, but safety off too?
It's easy to believe that some gun owners aren't practicing basic gun safety. Gotta keep it loaded, you know, for when the guv'ment comes in to try to take 'em, or so they're ready for when people whose complexion doesn't match theirs comes kicking down their doors, amiright?
I suppose a dog could hit the trigger when jumping on the bed. But I'm betting the dog didn't also disengage the safety at the same time.
I'm a 100% supporter of people finding out the hard way, as long as the direct consequences are limited to just them. Pity if this guy has already reproduced. More than anything, I hope the dog is okay. I hope the dude gets cited for his recklessness or animal endangerment or whatever, but fat chance of most of that.

Fuck me, it ain't the dog's fault. Dog should'a looked before jumping on the bed.

I've never owned a gun, but thought the first rule in cleaning one was to ensure it wasn't loaded.

Having never fired a shotgun myself, I have a question: Is there a muzzle flash like with a handgun?

I think the dog saw this meme on the internet and decided to take action.

Cleaning a shotgun barrel inside requires the removal of shells. You have to be a special kind of stupid
