14. Gates has not backtracked on climate. Gates has always focused on global health. This framing is ridiculous.

The idea that solving climate change would solve global health problems is FLAT WRONG. In fact relationship between climate change, its impacts on global health, and poverty is the opposite of what this commentary suggests. Alleviating poverty by improving childhood health NOW and infrastructure development NOW will result in societies that have the capability to reduce climate change related health consequences in the future. With the "added benefit" (actually: primary goal) of reducing negative health outcomes overall. On the other hand, effort spent combating climate change instead of improving global health does nothing to solve global health issues that have nothing to do with the climate change.

People in developed countries see climate change as a risk in a way they don't see poverty and disease in Africa as a risk. And why not, I suppose? One affects them and the other doesn't. No, it's not wrong for Gates to prioritize global health, it's just different.
