According to three sources cited by Wikipedia:

in June 2025 the (Jubeau Empire's) editor Mark Sabbatini resigned and the company said he would not be replaced. Instead, the Empire was to be edited and managed remotely from Kenai.^[10] Sabbatini then launched a rival news site called the Juneau Independent.^[11] Soon nearly all newsroom staff at the Empire left to work at the Independent.^[12]

These are small newspapers. The Empire and Clarion publish Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the Empire has the highest daily circulation with just over 1,800 on Saturdays, as of 2023. (Circulation information for the Homer News was not readily available.)

Having been an editor at a very similar paper, I can attest that pay is low and working conditions leave much to be desired. I'd bet the house that these staffers didn't leave solely because of these corporate edits, but they were the fnal straw. (Writing for a paper that's edited at a corporate editing mill would be enough to chase me away by itself.)
