In reply to the discussion: Utah governor says alleged Kirk shooter not cooperating with authorities [View all]stopdiggin
(14,401 posts)Classmates (and teachers?) routinely describe Robinson as "quiet" and "noticeably 'smart" - and his academic achievement was (again) 'well above average'. Note, I did not label this person Mensa or genius level IQ. But, then - I don't think that necessary to qualify for my generalized 'well above .. '
But, more importantly - given what evidence we do have - I think I'll stick with my refutation of the, "Arrogant murderers probably don't have much of a brain" post that I responded to. In this case - that assertion would seem to be - well, frankly just flat out wrong! The kid was certainly no dummy. While, at the same time, performing horrible actions has little or nothing to do with 'having a brain'. And, taking both of those errors into account, the statement I objected veers far wider of the mark than my own poor statement.
Also - as you are doubtlessly aware - kids drop out of school for all kinds of reasons. And in fact - a lot of the time those reasons have nothing to do with academic 'ability'. And further - as you are also doubtlessly aware - it is an egregious mistake to attempt to tie 'coping', to anything like IQ or acuity. That's clearly false analogy.
