You've made some good, valid points after which I would say after watching the press conference I would not have been compelled to write my remarks. Not because I didn't see remarks made that I don't agree with but because one, they weren't to the level that my original read would have you believe. And two, he's clearly a man between a rock and a hard place that is trying to find a soft landing.
I wish he hadn't brought up continued fear of violence, that was unnecessary. Once he stated the improvement in crime stats and the on going improvements he should have stopped. It's not his job to justify the Feds coming in, that's their job.
My reaction is very personal. I live 40 miles outside of Los Angeles and per the Supreme Court justifiably suspect because I'm brown. I know what the jackbooted thugs are capable of and I think it's the job of every politician to protect it's citizens and resist tyranny. It is true that Mayor Young is in occupied territory.
You have done right by Mayor Young and I will retract my earlier statement with the hope he becomes stronger and more resistant or even better, Federal cooperation without violence to his constituents.
How would you suggest I retract my statement beyond my statement here? If I delete the original statement then DU members would not get benefit of seeing this process played out. I could edit the end of my original post and encourage further reading?
Either way, as always BumRush thank you for the information you've provided, the dialog, your patience, fairness and time. I hope to see a suggested response.
Be well and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
