How exactly did they pick THIS guy out of everyone else in the crowd? What did he do that tipped them off? He does everything else right, yet leaves a print?

I think because the guy in the images appear angry, Hands are gripped very tight in both images. Like in fists.

Angry is a stretch, many reasons for bunched fists which might be momentary or tension, though I did notice them. . . nt
