My late Israeli friend Yitzhak was a flaming leftist who never had any use for Bibi or the right wing or the "ultras" as he called the Haredim, who are a powerful voting bloc but don't, for the most part, serve in the army, yet are all in on the "reconquest" of the West Bank which they see as their "God-given" land. He is no doubt on spin cycle at present. Not too sure how my friend Michal feels about this either as she isn't fond of them but is a member of the Peace Party. She should probably have stayed over here, however she went back and became a well-known marine archaeologist. Yitzhak was a friend to the Bedouins (his kibbutz in the northern Negev sponsors a clinic for local tribes and a shop for local artisans) and lived with them for a time when he was young. He got along okay with Palestinians until some bombed a school his kids went to.
