And they have been arguing back and forth ever since regarding where it would eventually be headquartered.

(I think their chain of command went through the Air Force which is HQ'd in CO, although NASA hasa space presence in Huntsville)
(ETA - the "Command" goes back the '50s before Sputnik but I expect Sputnik blasted the military into high gear)

"Space Command" is a joint thing that Biden had moved "permanently" to CO (but obviously nothing is "permanent" )

NORAD is in Colorado Springs. I think Colorado was originally chosen because of the interior location and clear
