But having the option to have an automatic deduction from the paycheck of some 2 million federal employees, who are presented a whole booklet of participating organizations to choose from across all kinds of subjects, made it very easy for an employee to see who is out there, and made it almost "painless" to donate.

Also by having it set by pay period, it could be helpful for those organizations to do their planning and budgets knowing there was a "regularly scheduled" source of income that would be coming in throughout a year (vs a "one-time" donation).

And what I forgot to mention is that this option is (or I guess soon, "was" ) available for retirees too. So a retiree could continue to participate in the CFC and have their donations automatically deducted from their monthly retirement disbursements.
