The Trump administration has paused work on a decades-old charitable arm of the government which allows federal workers to donate part of their paycheck to a cause, while officials decide whether to keep the program going, according to a recent report.
The Combined Federal Campaign, which falls under the Office of Personnel Management, has raised more than $9 billion for charitable organizations since the early 1960s, including St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, Doctors Without Borders USA, Feeding America, the Wounded Warrior Project, and more.
But ahead of its 2025 solicitation period, when federal employees can pledge their time and money to charities, it has paused work, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
A note, which the Post reported was on the Combined Federal Campaign website, says that the Office of Personnel Management issued a Stop Work Order on August 26, affecting the organizations upcoming website launch which was set for September. The Independent has asked the Office of Personnel Management for comment.

(36,872 posts)Most wont get what a big deal this is, I know why the frauds hate it though. Every year a donation guide is printed showing the percentages of the donations going to actual work vs so-called overhead. Similar to what was imposed with insurance in the ACA. I am sure that would be a feature of the new website.
The Retrumplicans cant have people making informed decisions about where they put their money.

(77,794 posts)...............Its unclear what exactly led the administration to pause the Combined Federal Campaign recently.
A spokesperson for the Office of Personnel Managment told the Post that the administration has not made a decision on whether or not they will continue with the charity drive this year.
However, the administration has taken a harsh stance on the government supporting organizations that do not align with President Donald Trumps policies including by charitable means.
.................................
Some of the major charities that federal workers have donated the most to include Planned Parenthood Federation of America, which has had Medicaid funding revoked as part of Trumps signature legislation; National Public Radio Inc., which Trump has railed against and signed an executive order to revoke funding for; and the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the organization that has filed countless lawsuits against the administration........................

Some of those charities have already paid application and listing fees to be included in the charity drive for this year.

Bastards! Take the application money and cancel the program is so on brand for the regime. I wonder if it's possible for the employees who donate to start a class action lawsuit?

(160,228 posts)I participated in the CFC for years. Feds can contribute money as a 1-time donation each CFC period (for the year) or have an automatic, per pay period amount of money deducted from your paycheck to do the same. Those funds can then be distributed to one or any number of charitable participants that you designate, a list so large that it is literally compiled in a "booklet".
By removing that "easy" means to support these organizations, which they are continuing to do through cuts of Congressionally authorized funding, but now through the proposed elimination of employee donations facilitated by the government, is to literally starve organizations that HELP people, in order to feed the billionaires (and wannabe billionaires),
I expect they will next try to do a "litmus test" and and attempt to forbid federal employees from doing ANY donations to groups not promoting white Christian supremacy (including those that engage in all manner of bigotry and hate).

You can also donate hours now as well.

(160,228 posts)But having the option to have an automatic deduction from the paycheck of some 2 million federal employees, who are presented a whole booklet of participating organizations to choose from across all kinds of subjects, made it very easy for an employee to see who is out there, and made it almost "painless" to donate.
Also by having it set by pay period, it could be helpful for those organizations to do their planning and budgets knowing there was a "regularly scheduled" source of income that would be coming in throughout a year (vs a "one-time" donation).
And what I forgot to mention is that this option is (or I guess soon, "was" ) available for retirees too. So a retiree could continue to participate in the CFC and have their donations automatically deducted from their monthly retirement disbursements.

(3,923 posts)Always liked the CFC set up. Easy to set up and lots of charities and information on the charities. You could do quick searches for just about anything national and local.
Thanks for volunteering while you were a Fed. Would be a shame to see this go, but it really shows how this administration is into inflicting suffering on folks. Maybe some people will be more careful with their votes in the future, at least we can hope some of them do.

(10,539 posts)we all know that he, Donald The Ignorant Trump probably did not even know that most if not all of these programs even existed. Elon Musk, Stephen Miller and other selfish cold jerks have to whisper in his ear and tell him why he should cancel them immediately. Then they all sit around and delight in knowing that they have caused even more suffering of people they see as not worthy of life on earth.

I hope there won't be a lot of drop in donations just bc a change in how they give, after a long habitual way.
