My husband is a pilot, also.

Neither of them, nor any of their other pilot friends, ever pulled that crap. Refusing to land if they didn’t get fill-in-the-blank-here? What bullshit! ANY pilot my husband OR I knew was the ultimate in safety-mindedness. NONE of them would EVER risk their lives or the lives of their colleagues or passengers, or threaten to use them as barter to get whatever it was that they wanted or believed they were owed.

I never knew ANY pilots who DIDN’T put safety first, and second, AND third, above ALL ELSE. Piloting a plane, whether you’re just flying yourself OR you have others in the plane with you, is ALWAYS a Safety-First priority.
