The MoCA adds up to 30 points, but has only 17 or so independent questions across eight areas of cognition. I had seen the MMSE referred to as a "30-question test," so figured that's what what he was taking (given his repeated references to 30 questions). However, when I found a PDF of the MMSE it's clear that, like the MOCA, there are fewer than 30 independent questions.

But clearly it is the MoCA that presents pictures of animals to name. The number and type of animals he describes don't show up on any version, but nevermind. (I did get a kick when he threw in Shark as one of the animals because according to Stormy Daniels he has a thing about sharks.)
