8. It seems he believes he really does hold all the cards

It might be that the current situation is more unacceptable to the US and world than to Iran.

Until the Strait is open, getting oil, gas, fertilizer out of that area is difficult and very costly. I expect in the future an Iranian threat to close the Strait could be as strong as the threat to develop and use a nuclear weapon.

Apparently, the supposed author of the art of the deal has very little understanding of diplomacy and unfortunately is too egotistical to see that.

What he likely does see is that agreeing to end the blockade and Iran opening the Strait means we are back to where we were before he started the war. Obviously we have killed their leaders and many others and caused great destruction, but no great victory of the type he wants.
