There's always been a minority within the party who wanted to take permanent power and ignore the constitution. And the rest of the Republicans were always okay with having them around and working with them. Now that the faschies have control, 90% of the other Republicans are going right along, just like they did when Dick Cheney or Dick Nixon crossed constitutional boundaries. The whole party has been building toward this for decades.
