You can still watch 3-4 games on Sundays. I'm pretty sure that most Monday night football games have aired on ABC since the writers strikes a couple of years ago. Prior to 2006 the Sunday night game was exclusively on cable, so worst case scenario you swapped a game on Monday for one on Sunday over the air.

There are more games on streaming services now, but that's less than 2 games a week with Thursday nights, a handful of games played in Europe and a game played on Christmas. Even the Amazon prime game on Black Friday will stream for free to everyone.

But even when it was exclusively OTA, you were still only getting 3-4 games in your area.
