(1,998 posts)I touched on this theory on another thread about why are MAGA people so angry.
Like wasps at the end of the summer, some glimmer of a signal is getting through to their brains that their time is ending, so they become more aggressive.
Despite their current power position in the United States, the world IS moving on past them. Women are being elected to important political positions in other countries and they are contributing to their economies and making scientific discoveries.
Formerly colonized people of color are finding their voices and are advocating for the preservation of their cultures and their seats at the table within mainstream power structures.
Study after study shows younger generations are more accepting of LBGTQ + identities and perspectives.
Despite all the setbacks that we may experience here and read about in other parts of the world, the shift towards liberal values is happening. As our current regime focuses on pulling us back socially, they can't keep one hand on the hammer of oppression and have the other hand free to stoke the fires of innovation and economic advancement. It just doesn't work that way.
You want to be the best? You want to lead the world in technological innovation? You need educated people; and educated people question the status quo. That's how innovation is fostered in technology and social movements.
You also can't suppress the capabilities of large portions of the population without sacrificing the potential contributions that their members can make towards the goal of advancement in any field. That's a counterproductive strategy and it will grind a nation's movement forward-- in any sphere-- to a halt.
Would America have landed on the moon if Katherine Johnson had been told to shut up about math and stick to scrubbing floors as she was "supposed" to be doing? No matter how many other people were involved in the Space Program, no matter how much opposition there may have been to accepting her contributions and no matter how long those contributions went unacknowledged, she WAS there and that is why it happened.
You take the contributions of all the non-White Males out of the equation and many of humanity's achievements never come to pass.
So, the old White Male Power Structure and the concept of unlimited Capitalism is dying because it simply cannot be sustained. Most of them sense it on an inchoate level; a few are intelligent enough to recognize it. Their response will be to fight until the bitter end, clinging to their comforts and privileges and taking down as many of their perceived enemies with them as they can.
It may, indeed, get even uglier than it already is. But when their end comes amid the destruction that they themselves have wrought, something will emerge. Like a blade of grass pushing through concrete, those that inherit a changed world will have to embrace flexibility and tolerance. Because Soft is stronger than Hard.
"Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong." ― Lao Tzu
They are angry. Their anger is a jagged rock wielded as a weapon of destruction. But water is needed for creation and the continuance of life. And that, they cannot wield, because water is compassion and empathy. Water is fluid thinking and tolerance. Water is the acceptance of change.
The whole Universe is founded on change and change is what they hate. So, you bet that they're angry. But anger won't stop the Universe from changing around them. Nothing ever will.
