(11,891 posts)...normally address revenue (tax cuts/increases). They are focused only on approving government spending/appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year (or some shorter-term). CR's and appropriation bills require 60 votes in the Senate to be sent to the floor for a vote. That is why the Republicans now require Democratic votes to actually make the cuts in spending for the upcoming year that they included in their MAGA Murder Budget reconciliation plan.
The MAGA Murder Budget was a reconciliation package that doesn't require 60 for cloture. It addressed both revenue (tax increases/cuts) and the plan for where the revenue would go (spending/appropriations). To pass it they only needed a majority. But to actually implement the spending side -- the appropriations, they need 60. Which is why reconciliation packages are not NORMALLY shoved down the throats of the minority party. You need them to implement it.
Anyway, I just mentioned that I'm unclear about how rolling back tax cuts could be tied in because this is an appropriations showdown.
