He wasn't fired, CBS just indicated they weren't going to renew it when it expired. He has been on 10 years; most shows, even the most successful ones, usually don't last much longer than that.

Friends lasted 10 years; Seinfeld 9, King of Queens 9, Everyone Loves Raymond for 9, MASH lasted 11 seasons
