(44,158 posts)I do like to write, and DU provides me one of those outlets for my writing.
I could make my satire hackish and predictable over jokes that have already long been made and circulated ad naseum, but there would really be no fun for me in that. Even if it comes off more obviously as satire at first glance.
If you read my satire pieces clearly enough, it should be obvious that it's not an actual news piece. There should always be some element to it that clearly defies reality. The Russians demanding that they negotiate with a former President of Ukraine who has been out of power for 11 years and is living in Russia is simply not realistic.
But there should also be a certain element and degree of truth behind the satire nonetheless. The Russians do in fact openly question the legitimacy of Zelensky as Ukraine's leader, even though that's exactly who he is. I take that fact and build a satirical story around that fact.
That's the fine line I like to walk.
I mean, I can't speak for people who only get their news by reading headlines.
