2. Anecdotal so, take with salt....

I personally know an "almost" billionaire. Yes, just the one. Another 5 years he'll be over the billion mark simply due to investments. He made his money WORKING. Had a good idea and figured out how to market it. Sold the business at 50 and "retired". He still works "private equity" with other billionaires. They basically bail out good businesses who need capital, worldwide, and take them next level. They don't tear things apart, they build. He seems to have 1000s of contacts all over the world with money to invest in something. If a business comes that his group doesn't think is a good fit, but has a need, they try to find someone better suited and make the introductions.

These are not saints. They are in it for the money, but also are decent people trying to do something good. I believe there are more of them out there than you might think. Anonymous financiers who use the money and connections they either made or inherited to push individuals and mid/small business to the next level.
