Into believing believing tariffs were paid by foreign governments - that it was free money coming in so we could tax ourselves. I even had an extended conversation with someone intelligent enough to understand that tariffs would result in price increases - who still described, in detail, how the foreign government collects the tariffs to send to the US (and the foreign manufacturer would need to decide whether to increase it's prices enough to cover the tariffs they would need to pay).

So, unfortunately, it's not o only the dumbest who still believe tariffs are simply a tax on ourselves.
