Blizzards transcend politics. |
|
After weeks of so much disappointment, I thought this little anecdote might cheer some of you up.
I live in Minneapolis, and we've been DUMPED on with nearly 20 inches of snow in my neighborhood. And to top it off, Mother Nature, being the cruel mistress she is, decided to drop the temps on us to zero.
But that hasn't stopped dozens of people on my block from helping each other out. Somalis, Russians, Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics, Gays, Straights, Conservatives, Liberals, and everything in between - everyone is outside shoveling each other out, pushing other people's cars out of drifts and manually turning cars around corners of our unplowed streets and back alleys.
It does give one hope that no matter what we may face as a country in the future our survival instincts can kick in and help our fellow human beings, no matter what they believe in.

7. That is a very good thing! |

I haven't seen snow like this here since I we had the 1991 Halloween Blizzard. As a jaded Minnesotan, snow is no biggie, but this storm sort of took my breath away!

3. I was in Nashville last spring during the floods |

and saw the same thing. When the chips are down no one asks you who you voted for before helping out.

Despite the cold, at least it's a cloudless, sunny sky. That always helps. :)

5. It just sucks that people wait until desperate situations to help one another out. |
|
Why can't it be like this all the time? We help each other out, no matter if the person your helping is a political enemy, a different race, a different gender, etc. Everyone pitching in - you use resources according to your needs, and if you have extra you give, in the expectation that your fellow human will do the same?
I guess that's "socialism" or something.

common with our fellow humans than what divides us.

everyone is a Socialist. Merry Christmas, Matt
I still feel cold remembering my 4 years in Rochester ... but they were great years nonetheless.

I agree with my conservative friends on most things, our differences are only in a few things, most of these Teabaggers are decent people brainwashed by Fox News and other BS.

We got all the cars dug out and moved to the other side of the street today for plowing. It was a miracle LOL!
I think we'll be able to drive around tomorrow (finally). YAY!

14. That is typical Upper-Midestern behavior. We don't do the "Republican = TEH DEVIL" thing here. |

Minnesota Nice and all.
I am always shocked by the posters here on DU that could not imagine having Republican friends.
