The GOP exists to cater to the rich; they would have done anything to extend the Bush tax cuts |

Obama had all the leverage in the world to get practically anything he wanted from the Republicans in exchange for extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich. They need him to get those tax cuts extended.
Anyone who claims that Obama got "the best deal he could get" is simply full of crap.

5. I don't think that's what's the OP is saying |
|
(read the last line).
I believe the point was, if Obama was going to cave, he should have and could have gotten a lot more out of the Republicans before he gave in.

4. Yep, continuing those tax cuts was their signature issue in the midterms |
|
Obama gave in far too easily, he could have held out for an additional year extension for the 99'ers, and kept the existing Make Work Pay tax cut for the lower class (instead of damaging SS by reducing FICA) so their taxes wouldnt have gone up.
Heck, the GOP wanted it so bad they probably would have signed on to a public option just to keep it.
