Sorry, Keith, But I Agree With Gene Robinson On This One |
|
KO had GR on tonight to discuss his column today, wherein GR said to take the deal.
KO said on the air that he disagreed with GR, even though he still loves him.
Gotta agree with GR, and for all the reasons he cited.

15. It's not about liking the deal. |
|
It's about whether we can actually get anything better. Between unanimous Rethug indifference to what the American people actually want and the presence of entirely too many Blue Dog DINOs who also want the tax cuts for the rich extended, we probably can't get anything better right now. And the alternative is to let the Rethugs and Blue Dogs go it alone a month from now and extend the tax cuts for the rich (perhaps permanently), and without us getting anything at all in return.

21. What I don't like is the precedent it will set. |
|
If it works, they'll run the same game on Obama again and again. The deal has a built-in detonator for blowing up Social Security--"Boo hoo, we've lost funding, we'll have to cut benefits and raise the retirement age!" And if the Rethugs didn't use their tax cut revenues to create jobs with a Rethug president, why would they use their extended revenues to create jobs for a Democratic one?

5. What reasons did he cite? It's going to take a lot to convince me (like I get a vote |
|
or something :eyes:) that this won't harm us ALL a couple of years down the road. I think everybody will be in worse shape by then (except those fucking billionaires).
Thanks.

Anyway, this deal is like the prosecutor offering you a year or probation. Take the deal or if not the prosecutor is going to take the case to trial and try put you in jail for five years.

8. If this is really the best deal that can be had |
|
Then it's worse than no deal.
It's time to say enough is enough and take a stand. George Bush used the Clinton surplus as an excuse for his disastrous tax cuts for the rich. He said they would create jobs. It's been ten years. Where are the jobs? And where is the surplus to pay for this tax cut for the rich.
BTW, every couple earning under $40K per year and every single person earning under $20K per year will see a tax INCREASE. And that's not even mentioning the republicans getting more than they ever dared dream of in the estate tax deal.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NO DEAL. LET IT ALL EXPIRE BEFORE GIVING AWAY EVEN MORE TO THESE CRAZY BASTARDS AT OUR NATION'S EXPENSE.

19. Let the tax cuts expire. Let the Republicans lose support over not extending unemployment. |
|
Obama still has the veto. The Democrats still have the Senate. The Republicans can do whatever they want in the House, but if it's tax cuts for the uber-rich, they can suck on it.
I say, Just Say No to the Republicans' extortion attempt.

26. So in the meantime, when the UI checks stop after Dec. 31, HOW long |
|
do those who were receiving them have to wait for all these heroics to play out, assuming the job market is not going to suddenly right itself, which is the reason they were drawing the extended benefits to begin with?
At this very moment, the MSM can actually say that the DEMOCRATS are holding up UI benefits and they are technically correct.
And by the way, exactly when do you expect the corporate-controlled media to start exposing the obstructionism of the Republicans? Clock's ticking...
...and in the meantime, I don't need to watch Fox News to tell you who they're saying is responsible. See above.

24. Gene had that disheartened look... |
|
The, "I give up" look. A look that doesn't tell the entire story.
There is more to this than these guys indicate on air. I've been with Olberman on this one.
To do otherwise is to "give up" what I thought we all believe in when we're asked to communicate to "representatives". They've forgotten what their role is, and it's up to us to insist they do it in our name.

25. Gene is a reasonable man. Reasonable folks get rolled by soulless zealots. |

I don't think a large segment truly appreciates the real nature of the opposition.
There is no good on this path, we'll be appeasing sociopaths for every morsel going forward and in the end there will be nothing.
