17. The Howler made a point that I made yesterday somewhere on DU, |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 03:21 PM by stopbush
and that point is that there is nothing wrong with adding to the deficit to stimulate the economy. If the economy grows, people get jobs, and people with jobs pay taxes, and increased tax revenues pay back the borrowing that occurred to create the jobs in the first place.
I - for one - was disheartened to hear Rachel parroting the RW line that adding to the deficit is the worst thing we could be doing right now. The fact is that she HAS made the case that stimulus spending is important, and she's made that case recently.
There's nothing wrong with "putting it on the credit card" if one has a reasonable hope that money will be available to pay off the credit card, and growth in the job market will create tax revenues that will be used to pay off the credit card.
And the Howler got it right on KO this week as well - many of his guests like Ezra Klein have been very supportive of the Obama deal, but those perspectives just seem to roll right off KO's ears. There was a real disconnect on Wednesday's show (or was it Tuesday) where KO gave his big Special Comment knocking the Obama compromise just minutes after a number of his guests had presented quite a different picture of things.
Look, it doesn't do us any good to put our heads in the sand when KO & Rachel make these kind of disconnected statements. They do it, and they need to be called on it when it's so flagrant and willful. The knee-jerk reaction some DUers have to jump to the defense of Rachel and others, impugning the motives of DH and others who check facts on our spokespeople is just sad. If we can't take fact checking OUR allies, why should we expect the other side to listen to fact checkers? At least Rachel and KO are big enough people that they have both issued plenty of correctives and even apologies when they have been shown to have been wrong. That's not something one ever sees coming from the RW.
Let's not pretend that Somersby is making shit up here. In this instance, he's spot on, at least from what I heard on both Rachel & KO's shows this week, long before I read the DH today.

Agree with you on Olbermann and Ezra Klein for sure. Olbermann just seemed to want to rant. I did not see Rachel's show that night though.

I don't mind him fact checking anyone but why does he have to throw out nasty remarks. That seems over the line.

he is a PAINFULLY METICULOUS FACTCHECKER and has been brutal to Maddow for months.
I love her too, but Somersby is too accurate to ignore, and has good points. Frankly, I avoid reading DH because I would prefer to enjoy Rachel without the nitpicking.

If you feel that it was an innocent mistake, then we'll have to disagree. Others have taken shots at Rachel by calling her a boy, there is a pattern among her critics.

20. Not "Gore-backed." The writer is a college friend of Gore's. |
|
He's done useful blogging over the years, but he has a history of vituperative, over-the-top attacks on anyone who disagrees with his analyses in any particular. It's gotten to the point where other respected left/liberal bloggers just ignore him. He really seems to have a screw loose.

If you really wanted the American people to rally around no-tax-cuts-for-richies, shouldn’t we have had this conversation before the election? It’s a lot easier to send Washington a message at the polls than on a protest march in a sub-zero wind-chill factor.
No, we waited until now because the Senate leaders left the timing up to their members who were running for re-election, and the Democrats in question said they’d rather not have to go on the record.
Duh. Major Dem solons ducked a vote. Now, they’re pretending that things can somehow be salvaged if Obama would make a few speeches in Maine! How vast has the absurdity gotten? Even Collins and Matthews are suddenly getting things right!

In this country we are quick to believe we always need to make a choice, and that the choice is a perfect one. I don't believe that this is true. We are all fallible, even if some are at the top of their game more often than not.
