Stop threatening us unemployed, please |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 04:06 PM by Enrique
I'm hearing all kinds of threats, from Obama and others, that unless we get behind this atrocious giveaway to the rich, I'm going to get cut off.
Bullshit.
The dems need to fight for this extension of unemployment and not set the precedent for future extensions that we have to give billions to the rich to get those extensions that have never been conditional before.
Edit: and not only future extensions are threatened by this deal, Social Security is threatened, by both the greatly increased deficit (without getting much stimulus), and also by the payroll tax "holiday".

2. It's not bullshit. Republicans already voted the extension down; it's imminent. |

You're placing a bunch of faith in a Congress that couldn't get its shit together quite a while ago.
Good luck.

5. They don't have to get it right. |

They only have to be seen for what they are doing.
Then they can get it right or wrong and it will get corrected.
That is why some want to control information exchange, and also why they can't

When push came to shove, the GOP has backed down EVERY TIME the UI extension has come up and since they have more to lose in that fight than the democrats, they would have caved in AGAIN.. but for The Great Capitulators interference.

...and I wonder every day why our politicians aren't making that very point?
They could and should be standing in the halls of Congress, using the bully pulpit to clearly state that hard-working Americans who lost their jobs, should not be held hostage. PERIOD.
I worked in public relations/media relations for 15 years. If you want to disseminate a message, it's easy. It's obvious that our politicians aren't even TRYING.
The silence speaks for itself.

10. Maybe they don't want to. I am positive all |
|
of them know how to pitch and disseminate a message. They all got elected didn't they? So the other option is they don't want to.

12. Yes, that's a good point. To me it's sort of a strange strategy, but all of them are |

very bright and maybe part of a plan.

6. Recommended. My unemployed brother is furious. |
|
He practically spits on the floor anytime someone mentions Obama now because of the threats.
They're so out of touch, they thought people would accept this lying down.

be downhill from there for years on many similar issues.

the deal is craven hypocrisy.
Edit: I've rarely seen anything so cynical, attempting this stealth attack on social security on the backs of the unemployed.
Talk about hostage-takers...
