Kucinich may think his vote shouldn't represent his constituents or that voting against Obama is a "good thing", but which vote showed Kucinich to obviously be a phony demagogue blowhard that never gets anything accomplished and blathers on like a Utopian Purist while actually voting like a Republican?

While I like Kucinich on some levels, he is clearly showing himself to be a strawman than an authentic Progressive.

he is also a Democrat. He picked a party to run with and sometimes you have to follow the party. If he wants to be an Independant, run as one. If he wants to ba a republican, run as one. You picked this party for a reason. So what is the reason?

DK brings a voice to the Party that is needed, just as all the others do. We don't march in lockstep, and each voice brings something to our big tent. If you can't see why the numerous things he speaks out about are important, both to the party and the country, whether you're in agreement or disagreement with him, I'm not sure what to say to you. :shrug:

I just watched the analysis on CNBC. They are calling this a "benign" bill. They say the health care providers are happy with this. Nothing in it to lower their profits, plus increased enrollment. They are recommending people buy the private health care stock.

They all appeared to be happy and relaxed. They don't think the issue of health care will be addressed for another ten years.

My conclusion is that Dennis is a like a voice of truth, crying in the wilderness.

Why would the insurance companies raise their rates?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that:

• They have been raising their rates by 10+% every year for over 20 years
  
• They want to raise the rates as much now before they won't be allowed to with the healthcare reform legislation, which kicks in a couple years
  
• They are greedy and that's why people who voted FOR healthcare reform want to make them stop being greedy


Dennis voted WITH the insurance companies by voting against reform. He voted WITH the insurance companies that want to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

And do you really want to go down the road of taking one or two votes and holding them against someone despite a solid record otherwise, because that's a chump's game that can go against any Democrat. Sure you want to play that game? Ted Kennedy and NCLB ring a bell? Almost every Democrat on the IWR ring a bell? Tell me, what pure Democrat do you support that has never voted in a way you don't like?

We all draw the line somewhere, For me with Dennis this was the straw that broke the camels back. I have never really been a huge fan of his though at times I do agree with him. I have never thought of him as an effective representative.

Ted Kennedy may have had some bad votes but he also got things accomplished. I see a huge difference between someone who makes some bad votes and gets other things done and someone who makes bad votes and gets nothing done. Don't you? Its easy to constantly scream for nirvana the hard part is actually moving towards it.

As far as the IWR vote thing goes thats a vote that for me was a deal breaker. I have not supported any politician that voted for it. Almost the whole dem primary field was eliminated for me by that single vote. I wouldn't vote republican because of it as they are clearly worse but I wont lift a finger ever to help anyone get elected who voted for it either.

I am coming to the conclusion very quickly this health care vote will be another litmus test for me. Dennis failed that test spectacularly and his statements since have only made it worse.

There are times to stand on principle. While I'm glad the health care bill passed, I'm also glad that Kucinich voted the way he did. It's an important reminder to the House leadership and corporate Obama that some liberals are as principled as conservatives, and one should not automatically assume that liberals are spineless like those the Op seems to admire. Don't Ask/Don't Tell was the lousy "compromise" that set back gay civil rights. Denying a woman equal rights in medical care (by denying her decision making power over her own body) is an equally bad compromise. My hope is that by getting any kind of bill passed, the Democrats will hold onto to power and change the the law.
