Maybe the government isn't competent to handle healthcare after all. |

When I think of "the government" I picture a bunch of ernest men and women at desks trying to do a good job.
I trust those people. They are my people... I'm from a long line of civil servants. They'll win a war, defeat a disease, build a dam. Good, smart folks.
But I forget that "government" also means Bart Stupak and Joe Lieberman.
Boehner and Bachman are "the government" and I wouldn't trust them to empty my trash.
Bart Stupak is not an aberration, he is the average Congressman... mister 218. Right in the middle. And he cannot be trusted with anything.
Aetna will kill you for a nickel but at least they don't check the Bible first. (Like the Monty Python game-show BLACKMAIL... "We're not here to judge, we just want your money.")
Scylla and Charybdis. No easy way out or through.
I am sure that any bill that passes will help a good number of people, so that's good.
But having bible-thumping cowards involved in designing something so important is... it's a nightmare. By the time the Senate gets done with it this health bill will probably have a flag-burning amendment tacked on.

But they still aren't "perfect" plans. And just because this health care bill isn't "perfect", it doesn't mean the government isn't capable of handling health care reform.

4. There is no perfect answer. But something's gotta give - |
|
in a country like ours, anyone going without health care, anyone going hungry, anyone going homeless - is just in excusable.

Every right winger in the world thinks the government is incompetent to do everything but wage war.

7. Usually they mean the executive branch |
|
That at least makes some sense. You're attacking the legislative branch, elected officials all. If they are elected and are "incompetent" I can't imagine what you are proposing in order to get "competent" legislators. In my book, they should always be elected by the people.

14. That's probably what it is |
|
When they are "bought and paid for by the insurance companies" you have to figure who is responding to the attack ads and the media? The voters. When they won't elect someone because they are too short or have glasses or aren't Presidential or Senatorial looking, they're letting form over substance rule. And they don't have to be that shallow. Yet it seems a tough uphill battle to get people to consider the issues rather than run with the sound bites from the ads and the media.

8. Once a bill is law, the Senate and House don't deal with it on a daily basis. |

Everyday govt. workers do, and they are usually hardworking regular people.
