Poll question: Please register your Choice...... |
|
If you had to choose who cast the right vote last night, who would it be?
Dennis Kucinich or Babarba Lee?
which of those two votes was actually progressive, i.e., voted toward progress rather than voted to support the status quo?

1. I reject the false premise of your poll |
|
It should read "Dennis Kucinich - because principle is more important than a huge corporate blowjob".

6. It is exactly a correct premise....... |
|
Kucinich voted the way that he did, and rationalizing who it affected is selective at best.
38 million Americans would be directly affected by this bill in the positive, and Dennis Kucinich voted against those 38 million, because the bill wasn't good enough as far as he was concerned.
That is what he did.

14. The bill is false reform that rewards the criminal behavior of the insurance industry |
|
To stand on principle against that, is not a BAD thing.

3. President Obama's feet are held to the fire daily here at DU, |

so I'm not sure why Dennis Kucinich's feet are exempt.
You want to tell me why that would be?

You're attacking Dennis for not surrendering on his.
And again, the bill passed. I suspect Dennis would have voted aye if he'd been told it was an actual dead heat.

Obama is attacked here for building consensus which is the legislative process.
Kucinich is exalted here for being a self righteous prick who has never done anything to move a progressive agenda forward. HE talks the talk but is incapable of walking the walk.

Perhaps I'm not that fucking stupid.... perhaps the point that no one is perfect hold true even when we are referencing St. Kucinich.
Perhaps what is typical of you is to call names, and still, no one gives a shit.

11. The very nature of being a principled person is that you stand by them |
|
And, the democrats find priciples expendable. It is all lip service, no spine. The majority HAVE no principle.
The entire health care reform was fought from the perspective of keeping the insurance companies and big pharm PROFITABLE.
This bill is a fraud. It is a scam sold as a solution. It expands the power of the very industry that broke the health care system, and yet we are told this is progress. If you care about people, you fight for the people. And, the democratic leadership didn't even begin to fight.
They sold us out. I will be coming out with a very long post about the specifics.

|
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 03:45 PM by FrenchieCat
than you are about uninsured people.
That may be a principle, but it doesn't make it humane, it only appears like it on its face, if one truly doesn't think about the actual practical ramification of that vote.
I don't elect philosophers to congress, I elect people who are ready to get something tangible done that benefits people, especially those who have the least.
Barbara Lee has plenty of principle, she's just not willing to put it over the lives of the many Americans in her district who have no health insurance.

17. Two Reps, each considered "Principled" had different Principles last night.... |
|
that is a fact, which is why I put up this poll.
They had options of yes or no votes, and each took a different route. There are reasons why they did, and in both case it dealt with the principle each holds.

More and more Democrats in Congress each year are anti-choice. It’s acceptable now. These groups have the lobbyists, the money, the access, and their leadership uses it for their own personal advancement while the cause they purport to defend withers on the vine. to get the door open and the ball rolling in the right direction. It will make passage of like legislation easier in the future. It's not ideal and it will still save lives.
In addition, it will give momentum to President Obama to achieve other things. If it goes down it will be much harder for him to get anything meaningful done for the rest of his term.

31. 18 million will be left uninsured. Any volunteers? |
|
Seems everyone's hands have a bit of blood on them. Especially since we are coming off 20 years of uninsured americans and a million deaths as a result.
At some point we will need to fight for every last person but apparently not yet. We are still operating in the I got mine mode drilled into most of us since reagan.
Once the senate gets a hold of this bill that 18 million number will rise.

38. By this logic, Don't Ask/Don't Tell should be seen as progressive |
|
If one simply needs to vote for the best legislation to be progressive, then Don't Ask/Don't Tell should be considered a progressive piece of law. Though I'm glad the health care bill passed, because I think Congress' in the future can amend it, I really admire Kucinich for voting his principles. Clearly, he's the more progressive, while Lee is the more pragmatic.
