The deficit is more important than human life? Stunning! |
|
Mississippi. Rep Gene Taylor says the core of the blue dogs is to say no to healthcare reform because we've made too many promises and commitments to our nations military, retirees, veterans. In that vein we have run up the deficit.
He has some good ideas. Breaking the anti-trust exemption, buying generic drugs, and purchasing prescription drugs at a competitive price.
However...
When it comes to human life he doesn't have the same passion for all of those people dying as he does for reducing the deficit. There is no mention of the moral cost to people losing their lives because they don't have healthcare. I guess because his healthcare is taken care of, he doesn't have to give a shit about all of those people who don't have coverage. Are any of these politicians listening to Grayson? People worry more about money above human life. People have died and these neanderthals are talking about reducing the deficit. Stunning!

3. It seems to me that repubs. have *purged* the notion of empathy |
|
toward their fellow Americans and even made it a negative word when Obama mentioned that Sotomayor was "empathetic." It is truly a disheartening trend in our country when a group of Americans only care only about themselves and the rest be damned.
I really don't think they actually care about the deficit. They didn't during Bush. They only seem interested in opposing Obama, regardless of what he is trying to accomplish.
I agree, it is stunning and I just don't get it.

By most estimates there is a value placed on human life. IIRC, it's around $3 million.
People say they need to save a life "at any cost" or "whatever it takes," but they don't mean it. They just don't want to sound mercenary. They also don't actually want to make the choice themselves--especially if it inconveniences them.
For instance, consider the number of people killed by/in cars. It would be easily to reduce that number to near zero. But nobody wants to. Environmentalists want cars light, and drivers want them fast and sporty. Not slow, heavy, and safe, with top speeds of perhaps 20 mph.
We could decrease heart disease by mandating proper diets--you shop weekly, get your caloric maximum, and if you finish that by midweek you fast. Or by stipulating what people's weight will be, or their exercise. "Hey, you--couch potato. I'm your federally assigned personal trainer, drop and give me 20, and then open your wallet for that $500 fine--lucky for you it's your first offense, the second offense requires that you donate a kidney."

7. If they are so damned concerned about the budget |
|
the Pentagon budget is right there! They could strip 25% out of there and still be within the margin of waste and fraud. That would restore enough money to pay off the deficit AND provide health care for everyone.
The fact that nobody in Washington will even Consider cutting the Pentagon says a whole hell of a lot about entrenched power. Citizens are not a priority. Military contractors are.

8. When the GOP was in control the deficit had no importance at all. They raised it with no qualms. |
|
But human life never had much value to them unless it was unborn.
