Not sure what Governors actually do anyway. They certainly don't vote on national legislation.

Lets turn this around. They can also veto legislation passed by their assemblies-sometimes progressive legislation. Living now in a state with a Repug governor, I have first hand knowledge of this.

Democrats, will invite voter backlash in 2010 and 2012. After all, both McDonnell and Christie won by co-opting Pres. Obama's
HOPE messaging. What do you think would happen if they became Palinistas?

Republicans block vote on birth control education

Madison — Democrats tried to pass a bill Tuesday that would require schools that teach sex education to instruct students about birth control, but Republicans blocked final passage of the measure.

Republicans offered amendments - rejected by Democrats - that would have required schools to teach students about fetal development and the potential for criminal charges against underage students for having sex.

"It's a criminal offense" to have sex with anyone under 16, Rep. Daniel LeMahieu (R-Cascade) said. "I think it's appropriate we teach those kids what those criminal penalties are."

Democrats who control the Assembly gave preliminary approval to the bill, but Republicans used a procedural maneuver to block final passage.

The Assembly will now take up the issue Thursday, the last day the house plans to meet this year. The Senate, which is also controlled by Democrats, is expected to follow suit early next year. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle hasn't said whether he supports the measure.

Sex education courses would have to tell students about the proper use of condoms and other forms of birth control, as well as their health benefits and side effects, if the bill became law. Students also would have to be told about how to prevent sexually transmitted disease...........

as if they aren't important, lol. Michael Steele was cracking me up this morning; insisting the NY race was an anomoly and that a Puke will be back in the seat next year.

Obama obviously could have used Democratic governors in both VA and NJ in 2012. Obama's current popularity rating in NJ is 57% -- not a slam dunk stat for reelection.

There's also the issue of the U.S. Senate. Frank Lautenberg is sprightly, but he is very old. On the sudden chance that he can't serve out the remainder of his term, which expires in 2014, Christie would get to pick his replacement.

Obama will win NJ and VA with ease in 2012.
Just because his voters didn't show up in droves for the lackluster candidates for Governor does not mean they have suddenly vanished.

You know that yesterday turned out better than expected for us, but your opposition to Obama won't let you accept it.

Most of the commentary about last night's elections has centered around Republican pickups in the New Jersey and Virginia statehouses. But what's gone largely unnoticed is that the two congressional seats up for grabs last night both went to Democrats, and that will have immediate ramifications for health care reform.

That creates some simple arithmetic. Yesterday, Democrats had 256 voting members in the House. By week's end, they'll have 258. Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi could afford to lose no more than 38 Democratic votes on a landmark health care reform bill. Next week, after Owens and Garamendi are sworn in, she can lose up to 40. For legislation this historic and far-reaching, she'll need every vote she can get--and both seem likely to support reform.

Garamendi is a liberal, and though Owens now represents a GOP-leaning district, here's what he said about the bill at a debate last week with Doug Hoffman and Dede Scozzafava: "I think moving towards this legislation is very appropriate. I think the type or the form of the public option included in this bill is reasonable. It is not one that allows people to move to the government option if they already have health insurance overage. So it's not going to control a significant segment of the population."

PO appointed the previous R Congressman to the Sec of Army position and Biden went up to campaign for Bill Owens the Dem.
