You will pay a price for running away from Obama |
|
if you live in an area that has a substantial minority and youth presence. I was watching ed earlier and Congressman Moran said that was one of the reasons for mcdonnell's perceive success. Moran ran into some black voters who said that they voted for mcdonnell because deeds was anti-Obama.

1. to his credit mcdonnell's people did a good job siphoning off some black voters |
|
probably more than people expected (it was too easy to paint deeds as some backwoods country bumpkin from the mountains)

Which will have the same effect - I doubt the black McDonnell voters were many, though he did have one rather prominent supporter in what's her face who used to be at BET.
If Deeds losing isn't supposed to be a referendum on Obama, then a hypothetical win shouldn't be one either (though it looks like he's pretty much lost at this point). Bottom line is that his campaign sucked, and not even Obama could help him.

9. Just going by what Moran said |
|
on Ed.
Remember, mcdonnell did not say one bad thing about Obama on the trail and Crazy Ass sheila said she voted for Obama and would again. My perception of deeds was that he tried to out-mcdonnell, mcdonnell with the conservative white vote and didn't won't to be to closely associated with the White House and remembered northern Va and the black vote too late.
Remind me of what deeds said about the stimulus and health care?

I just don't see her endorsement of McDonnell having had that much of an effect on the black vote. And you're right....McDonnell actually CONGRATULATED Obama about the Nobel. I think your observation about out-McDonnelling McDonnell is a good one. Deeds just didn't give the minority and youth voters any reason to get excited about him.
Deeds was against public option

20. took them for granted |

and focused on the rural, white votes that he wasn't going to get anyway.
Crazy Ass sheila was married to Crazy Ass bob johnson. Remember his theatrics during the primaries when he was on the trail for Hillary?
As my mother said, "crazy attracts crazy." and no she doesn't have any pull in the black community, but I thank the black community didn't care about deeds. Especially when he proudly stated he was against public option. Stupid ass!

supporting Obama. The health care plans are rotten. Afghanistan is escalating with no end in sight. Guantanamo is still an operating prison. Obama is already backing off on making government more "transparent," as he promised to do.
Obama courts Republicans and ignores Democrats when Democrats are in the majority and the Republicans offer us nothing more than a continuation of the Bush years, which I supported Obama to bring to an end.
I am also getting tired of people who support Obama without question telling me that I must not question or that I must agree with absolutely everything this administration does. That is not the way our political apparatus works. The last leader we had who required us not to criticize or offer any type of critical input was George Bush. I have had enough of that to last for a lifetime.
You are entitled to hold whatever opinion you feel is appropriate, but please do not tell me that I must have the same opinion or dire things will befall me. I think they already have. I am no better off than I was before, and my trust has been betrayed by a man I thought was an able leader capable of doing much more than he has done. As someone else pointed out, this is a political board and not an Obama board. Democrats are very diverse and we benefit from that.
And yes, I live in Los Angeles which has a great deal of diversity and a large youth presence. They are all entitled to think what they want as well.

Don't let people on here who would criticize your opinion get you down. I can't vouch for anyone else but I agree with you 100%.
I'm tired of being told I'm being too demanding when I think that Obama should be more concerned with getting the support of democrats and liberals than he seems to be with courting republicans and "moderates" and big corporate business interests.
Keep your head up.

ran away from Obama.
This is a hard lesson for the blue dogs. You may have your beliefs and values which may differ from mine, but don't be stupid enough to ran AWAY from a President of your party that WON your state and it was a historic win at that!
