|
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 01:02 PM by bigdarryl
OH PLEASE!!!!! Ed the blue dogs just wouldn't give in to everything that was propose. I agree it's a bad bill but to say the President sold out sometimes Big Ed is part of the problem not the solution.

1. So if you agree it's a bad bill, what, exactly have we "gained" from all this? |

4. We have gained nothing, yet, nor when passed will have gained |
|
'cept maybe allowing for some concessions about pre-existing conditions, but the insurance vultures will gain 350 million paying customers, then raise rates for all to cover the newly added pre-existing conditions.

19. a lot of people are engaged who weren't before |
|
60 something % of the country wants a strong public option for those currently without insurance and are emotionally engaged.
if we don't get a decent bill that does that, they wont blame Obama so much as they will blame the Republicans, Lieberman and Baye. I think the polling is bearing that out. Even if we get nothing now -and I think we will get an inadequate little something now, a lot of voters (Dem, Rep, Ind) will flip out with anger at the people blocking it and they will vote for more Progressives who will back tough health care reforms. This will especially effect Senate races where the argument becomes.....you may not agree with me on a lot of issues, but you know I will be the last vote we need to get REAL healthcare reform.
I DONT THINK THIS ISSUE IS GOING AWAY.

Maybe Big Ed missed the class where Presidents aren't Kings... funny thing about legislation and how Congress and the Senate are involved too...

12. I've been hearing him try to redefine the public option every time he's come out in favor of it. |
|
It's no small point whether the public option is available to 5% or 100% of us.
Every time I heard Obama talk about the public option, he tried to weaken the definition of that term.

Seems like every move he made was against progressives. We won't forget it, either.

10. I am so damn tired of ed telling us that.. |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 01:27 PM by butterfly77
that all the President has to do is tell these bluedogs and fake Dems to vote for everything he wants and they will do it.
Some of these senators and congressmen and women never have intended to pass any bill for healthcare they are undercover republiCONS who have been slow walking it and will continue to try to water it down as much as possible...
Ed even spouts out their talking points about being weak etc..If the President jumped up and down and screamed day in and day out about the public option they still wouldn't give him what he wants they are really RepubliCONS. A lot of these congressmen and senators are jealous of Obama and don't intend to lift a hand to help if they can.
Some Dems don't like the fact that a black man is President and they aren't fooling anyone. I have been watching the Dems just like the Republicons since day one some can't stand it. One reporter who hates Obama's guts is Chip Reid on cbsnews. I have been watching him since day one he has been digging and digging trying to get something to stick. Yes,we are watching you Chip and you are fooling anybody.
It has nothing to do with strength or weakness, the same thing goes for this war. Everybody knows that we are not going to win and if we are suppose to win what does winning mean. If the president does send in some more troops I would give them six months and if they don't have control of their own country by then, too bad.
I am sick of this shit with the military, republicons and the media trying to prolong the war they know what the choices are and they are trying to bait our president into keeping this shit going. These people are only worried about the contracts and drug money they are getting they don't intend to do anything.
A lot of these senators are probably the drug lords if they are fighing a drug war why then, can I go out just about anywhere in the United States and get some drugs, they are full of shit and everyone is afraid to say what the truth really is. The public knows it and we all have been discussing it for years...

28. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand this point. They didn't even put |
|
single payer on the table. From the beginning the liberals/progressives were shut out of the debate. The public option IS the compromise. And still, it looks like the liberals in the House are compromising the compromise. While I understand why they are doing so, even being asked to compromise further, after they have already given the Blue Dogs and Republicans concession after concession, is ridiculous to me.
We need to take money out of the political process. As long as there is no meaningful, comprehensive campaign finance reform, the liberals/progressives will always have to settle and compromise.
I'm sick and tired of it, too. Why is it that neither the Blue Dogs nor the DLCers are ever asked to compromise? It's always the loyal base. They take for granted that we'll always be there...and we'll always be ready to compromise.
That's why I left the Democratic Party years ago. Looks like I'm headed back out of the door again if things don't change.

27. That meme is already circulating around here |

Waiting isn't going to accomplish anything IMHO other than, perhaps, ensuring that Republicans and Conservadems feel more emboldened and that we get more of them in the next Congress. I say we get passed what we can get passed (even if Reid has to go the reconciliation route in the Senate for the PO) and use it as a launching pad for further reforms. President Obama stated that he doesn't see what happens now as being the end of health care reform but rather the beginning. I think that we should all adopt that mentality instead of complaining about how we are not getting everything that we want right now.

Unfortunately, the thing that you just don't want to believe is, there is NOT a majority to pass a robust public option in the house. There IS a majority to kill a robust public option in the house.

26. Ed is wrong on this. This is the Blue Dogs/DLCers in Congress. It's not even Pelosi or Reid's |
|
fault. There's a number of issues to be angry at Obama about. This is not one of them. The president doesn't control Congress. However, he could have been a more forceful advocate for a public option. Perhaps that would have pushed the Blue Dogs a bit more.
