Social Security and Medicaid and SCHIP started out as small programs too. They were popular and they expanded. That will likely be the pathway for the public option too.

Negotiating rates? Not such a bad deal - if the docs/hospitals agree with regional rates, then everyone wins.
No opt-out? - Excellent.
I don't see this PO as a bad option myself.

I missed it. What is the gist of what Nancy said? Anything different from what's posted online (which I need to find)?
Is there a mandate? That concerns me. I'm uninsured and self-employed, and even $200 extra a month isn't doable for me right now. To be penalized for not being about to afford something is concerning, but I can't imagine they would punish people already hurting.
