And strange that you mention Poland, recently I've been thinking about my maternal grandparents. They both emigrated from Russian-occupied Poland the same year, but arrived at Ellis Island on different ships. My grandmother was only 15, came with a friend, but she was the choice to come since she was the eldest in her family. And my grandfather was a young man, they made him a citizen and sent him to France to fight in WWI for his new country. I wonder how they'd be treated if they arrived here today?
