Trump's fervent denial of any Russian tapes is about the same as his reaction to the Epstein files. The more he adamantly denies something, the more likely that it is true.

That said, yes Trump does want to be like Putin, but I think Putin has a hold on Trump along with some other republicans that goes beyond jealousy. This sort of kompromat is a classic KGB tactic and they have perfected it. Trump is gullible enough to fall into the trap.
