Says everything about the real purpose of that island: to keep the girls they captured from escape.

Imagine being so desperate to get away that you would try to swim 2 miles.

The cheap, crappy furniture shows the place was never meant for “escape” in the sense that we take a weekend getaway. It’s a functional prison island.
