Can Ukrainians trust the U.S. "to be an honest middleman"? Richard Engel on Trump's shift - NBC News [View all]

NBC News' "Here's the Scoop": Trump appears to have dramatically shifted on how he's saying the Ukrainian war could end. After more than three years of fighting and months of back-and-forth between Kyiv and Moscow, he’s now backing off his earlier call for a land swap deal between the two countries.

This change in tone comes after Trump held a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy yesterday - posting later that day on social media “Ukraine, with the support of the E.U. is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form." It caught even Ukraine’s president off guard.

Russia doesn’t seem too pleased with Trump, despite the fact that just last month, he rolled out the red carpet for President Putin at their summit in Alaska. NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Richard Engel joins host Yasmin Vossoughian. - 09/26/2025.
