The course of events has spared them the choice, but any significant concessions to 'Bernie' at the convention, even any major role in the campaigning season, will cost some portion of such voters, and bring no benefit in exchange. Sanders cannot control his more fervent supporters. If he makes any serious attempt to swing them behind Mr. Biden, they will turn on him as a sell-out who caved in to the 'Democratic Establishment' and the big corporations. The energy of this election comes from middle of the road types grown disgusted by the cheap thug Trump, and the passion of rank and file Democrats who hate the cheap thug like poison. Sanders repels the former group, and enrages the latter group.
"The defeat and overthrow of a hated enemy is something to be for."
"From Bernies perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they dont want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."
