I'm not a member of the working poor. I'm solidly middle-class. I'm a Physician Assistant practicing clinical medicine, and getting a pretty decent salary to do so. But for the first four years of my practice, and for three years of my career as a Medical Assistant before going back to school, I worked at a clinic providing health care exclusively for homeless people.

I loved the job, and my patients. It created in me forever a desire to support the causes important to the working poor. The 1% can kiss my ass. I stand with working people.

I have vivid memories of the day-to-day struggle working minimum wage in a dead-end job.
