O’Malley could be ‘Secretary of Hunkery’ if White House bid fizzles, says late-night host Seth Meyer [View all]

If Martin O’Malley’s presidential bid doesn’t work out, Seth Meyers has another career option for him: “Secretary of Hunkery.”

The suggestion was made Tuesday as the former Maryland governor became the latest 2016 presidential hopeful to appear on a late-night talk show.

Meyers, host of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” asked O’Malley about his side career as the leader of a Celtic rock band and showed viewers an old photo of the 52-year-old politician wearing a sleeveless t-shirt that exposed his biceps.

“If president doesn’t work out, can I recommend Secretary of Hunkery?” Meyers asked.

The comic showed the photo a second time as the conversation turned to Donald Trump, the real-estate mogul who’s become the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

Last month, Trump referred to O’Malley as a “little weak pathetic baby” -- an image inconsistent with the photo, Meyers suggested.

During the segment, O’Malley also sought to further his case that the Democratic party should be sanctioning more presidential debates, saying that the current schedule of only six is “party malpractice.”

“It’s really ludicrous,” said O’Malley, who is lagging far behind Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in national polls and those from early nominating states.

O’Malley said the lack of Democratic debates is allowing Republicans to push their agenda more widely, and he said his party would be well served by more opportunities to “push back against the racist rhetoric that is coming from Donald Trump about new American immigrants.”
