why can't we help by expanding the listening base?

The "listening base" needs to be heard, not lectured or "inspired"
Find out what their "pain" is about.
THEN, using their experience, create the message and sell the vision.

If it's low wages, crushing debt, and lack of opportunity
that is behind their suffering speaking of "freedom" or voting
won't resonate the same as talk of living wages, debt relief
and public infrastructure development jobs.

Messaging needs to adress the "listeners" pain, fear and hope.
That's why right-winger messaging is so successful.
It focuses on fear, loathing of the "other" and imagined opportunity.
