US election 2016 poll shows two-thirds of Americans want more gun control [View all]

Two-thirds of Americans favour moderate or strong gun control measures, according to a poll.

The result of the Reuters/Ipsos Election Day poll of voters in the presidential election is up from 59 percent in 2012.

Democrat Hillary Clinton has advocated for an assault weapons ban and comprehensive background checks on would-be gun owners, following a slew of deadly mass shootings in the United States.

The Reuters/Ipsos Election Day poll was conducted online in English in all 50 states and included about 38,000 people who had already voted in the presidential election.

While the "guns for everyone" right-wing gun nut contingent are clamoring that promoting gun control (all by itself) cost the Democrats the election, the polls say differently. The fact alone that Hillary won the popular vote by a few million says that the majority of voters support gun control and only the red-necked "cold dead hands" absolutists are offended by a call to reduce the violence on our streets.

Trump can not stop the tide of public opinion which has turned in favor of sensible gun control.
