PSA: "Site" means place, comes from Latin /situs/. "Sight" refers to vision, is Anglo-Saxon/Germanic in origin. [View all]
"Sight", of course, can have multiple meanings, all closely related to vision or appearance. But "Web sight" is not a useful construction. "Web site" (even though it refers to a metaphorical place) is.
Mnemonic tie-ins: construction site, accident site, fossil site, historic site, original site, camp site. Related: situate, situation (which me be metaphorical, not literal).
